These enormous doors stand at the entrance to The Forbidden City (Imperial Palace) in Beijing and is now referred to as The Palace Museum.
The palace was home to 24 emperors over the span of 492 years between 1420-1912. It is the largest palace in the world measuring 961 metres long and 753 metres wide with a moat surrounding it.
When visiting The Forbidden City I recommend purchasing your tickets before you go and starting your tour as early as possible. The maximum number of visitors allowed in each day is 88,000. I know this because the first time we tried to visit we arrived at 1pm and were told the tickets were sold out for the day!
When you visit Beijing, I highly recommend visiting The Palace Museum. The craftsmanship, history and sheer size of the palace is breathtaking.
