If you love stationery, you'll be in heaven at the stationery market in Shanghai.
So what does stationery heaven look like?
Ok, so maybe it's not a market as such, but it's a building with numerous stationery shops filled to the brim with literal mountains of notepads, pretty pens, stickers, pencil cases, erasers, washi tape, wrapping paper, cards, games and everything you'll ever want or need to fulfill your stationery dreams.
Where to find the stationery market in Shanghai
The building stands on the corner of Renmin Road and Lishui Street. You can enter through the main glass doors on Renmin Rd (between Lishui Street and Anren Street) or through the doors from the back alley on Fuyou Rd.
On the ground floor you'll find stalls filled with semi-precious stones, pearls and jewellery. Make your way through these stalls to the middle of the building, where you take the escalators up to the third level. You'll find stationery shops on the third and fourth level.
How to get to the stationery market
Take the metro to YuYuan Garden Metro station (Exit 3) and cross the road to walk along Fuyou Rd. Or take a taxi or Didi to the corner of Renmin Road/Lishui Street and they will drop you off at the gates to Lishui St.
What are the prices like at the market?
In the largest store on Level 3 (and the small store on the same level) the prices are very good. This is a wholesaler so you get the benefit of wholesale prices. The M&G store has ok prices and the layout is more orderly, but the prices aren't as good as the wholesale store.
After you've finished with your stationery shopping be sure to explore the other shops in this building. You'll find:
- Toy stores
- Variety shops
- Nail stores
- Hair accessories
- Gift bag vendors
- Semi-precious stone & pearl stalls

Oh I would love this market. I journal, so I collect papers, pens, washis, stickers and all that. Thank you for writing about this. Bookmarking it for when I visit Shanghai in the future.
Make sure you set aside a couple of hours when you visit! It’s easy to get lost amongst it all and lose track of time….like a kid in a candy store 🙂
There are so many fun things to find there! I’ve never really been one to collect stationery items, but I think if I visited a market like this, it would immediately tempt me to begin doing so. I’d love to see this in person one day!
Thank Stephanie, yeah it’s quite hard to get out of there without finding something you absolutely ‘need’! ha ha
Oh wow! What a cool market! Thanks for sharing all about it!
